The quartet MND FLOW tries to look like a bunch of hip hoppers on their cover poses, but the sound is more akin to an ambient read of a modernized Weather Report. Simon Moullier/vib, Sharik Hasan/p, Alexander LJ Toth/b and Anthony Toth/dr all double on various percussions and electronics, and are able to weave urban hip hop pulses to sleek swig. A bit of poetic vocal rap takes place with subtle vibes on “Odyssey” while delicate delineations slide forward on “For Peach.” Delicate and dainty piano and vibes vie for background during the understated “Jack O’Lantern” and romantic “SMDAMA” while understated swing and synth caresses “EMS.” Things are a bit more assertive was piano strings pluck forward the groove on a frenetic “Confluence” but for the most part you get blue skies filled with stratus clouds dotting the horizon.
