You know that Mike Pachelli is playing for the guitar heads when each song on this versatile album not only gives a taste of a different guitar styles by Pass, Montgomery, Smith, Burrell and Reinhardt, but he also includes the tech notes about which ax he grinds along with preamp, compressor and mics. Heaven!
As far as the playing itself, he teams with Baba Elefante/b and Ronnie Ciago/dr to do a gypsy strut of “Billet Doux” move Wes on a clean “It’s OK To Be Alone” sublimely swing on “Satin Doll” and “I Let A Song Go Out of My Heart” and even get funky on “What’s Going On.” Hip grooves dig deep on a bluesy “All Night Long” while edgy tones come to the front on “Metal Fatigue” and rapid fire rocks avalanche down on “Road Games.” Have a blast with this guy!
Guitarist Nils has a smooth and poppish Lee Ritenour feel as he provides smooth and soul moods with Darryl Williams-Roberto Vally/b, Mitch Foreman-Nate Harasim-Philippe Saisse/key, Tony Moore-Gorden Campbell/dr and guest vocalists and horns. Some George Bensony moods are felt on the pusating “Play It” and “Coast to Coast” with clean picking and melodic ideas oozing from the string.s Funky “California” and a rought and ready rocker “Goldfinger” keep the feet moving, and a mellow madness with keyboards work well on”We Got Love” as Johnny Britt, Clydene Jackson and Eddie Brown add rich vocals. Uptempo and optimistic.
