Rich and mystical moods are evoked by Gordon Grdina’s oud, as it teams with Mark Helias/b, Hank Roberts/cel and Hamin Honari/perc for a caravan collection of originals. Spacious sounds create exotic trances as on “Telesm” and the serpentine “Ejdeha” with the rhythm team creative a passionate gallop on “Boubacar” and the rumbling “Wayward.” Percussive strings snap and bow with attractive tensile interplay during “Idiolect” with impressionist harmonies melding pizzicato and long tones during “Bordeaux Bender.” The songs are an excellent mix of melody and succinct travels along the sand dunes, never veering off too far to get lost in the desert.
