Vocalist, Trumpeter and impresario Lonnie McFadden serves as the head of the Welcoming Committee to Kansas City as he swings like there’s no tomorrow with his team of DeAndre Manning/b, Tyree Johnson/dr and Andrew Ouellette/p in his home town club of The Green Lady Lounge. Between intros and historical background chats, McFadden comes off like a musical Chamber of Commerce braggin’ in brass about the joys of Kansas City Jazz and its relentless four to the bar beat. His muted trumpet is Sweets Edison perfect on a sublime “Moten Swing” while he growls with the plunger mute on a funky “In The Club.” His voice is rich and romantic for “Our First Date” and soulful along with Manning on “”El Montecristo” A take of “What A Wonderful World” is filled with joy and the team snaps to Louisiana for “Get Ready.” A vintage boogie blues shuffle closes things out on “Swing Like Count Basie” while McFadden can’t leave well enough alone and even does a wonderful tap dance to close out the night with a festive “Tap’N the Blues.” Does this guy bleed BBQ sauce from Arthur Bryant’s?
