SUBLIME! Houston Person & Ron Carter: Remember Love

Tenor saxist Houston Person has slowly evolved into become the Ben Webster of modern jazz. His grizzly bear of a big tone is as thick a London Fog, letting his breath due all of the work on this gorgeously sublime album of duets with equally aqualine Ron Carter. The bassist provides a marathon runner’s pulse on sweetly swinging “Love Is Here To Stay” and “Without A Song” and is classy during his delivery of “You Are My Sunshine,” creating exotic strums for Person on the misty “Gentle Rain.” Person produces a graceful “My One and Only Love” and fills the room with his lava’d tone during “Easy To Remember” and floating like a nimbus cloud on “Daydream.” The two converse like long time friends at the park for a game of chess, maneuvering to each other like old pros. A real keeper of the flame.
