Strunz & Farah: Tales of Two Guitars

The venerable partnership of Jorge Strunz and Ardeshir Farah still create fresh sounds with their pair of nylon string guitars. They mix and match with Paul Alexander Gonzalez/dr, Diego Alvarea-Emilaino Almeida-Majeed Ghorbani/perc, Katisse Buckingham/fl and various other artists in cameo form to mix Mediterranean and Middle East moods.

The two have the rare ability to mix impressive chops with sensuous romance like few others, as on the fervent “Butterfly’s Wings” and galloping “Vision Vine.” Unison lines are jaw dropng on “El Regalito” and folk moods create serenades on a pulsating “En Los Montes.” The team gets most jazzy on the cooking little “Two Moods” which includes some bouncing bass and flying flute, while a hip samba strolls on “Clavo y Canela.” Luscious romance percolates on “Bolero #3” and Iberian coasts are visible on “Peaks of Alborz.” A rich duet between the two friends creates glowing strings on “Vals Tico,” a simbiotic meeting in deed. Exciting and accessible.
