Vocalist/guitarist Keeshea Pratt gives it all she’s got as she mixes soul and Memphis funk on this stomping session. She fronts a band with a steamy horn section that sounds like vintage STAX sessions on the earthy “Make It Good” and the swaying “Monkey See, Monkey Do,” but she can also take you to the rural back porches as Delta guitar strings moan along with Pratt on “Home to Mississippi” and the title track. Some Crescent City stomping takes place on the streets for “Shake Off These Blues” while Pratt works up a sweat with bluesy grit during “In the Mood.” A closing concert track of “So Bad Blues” shows how she and the band can work up a crowd with a mix of church and juke joint. Is she heading out to LA sometime soon?
