Jungsu Choi Tiny Orkester: Tscuss Jazz Era

A clever mix of tradition and modern is produced by this “ Tiny” Orchestra 12 musicans and guest vocalists. Composer and arranger Jungsu Choi does some clever work re-working pieces by Charlie Parker and Duke Ellington, the former with a peppy “Anthropology” that has kinetic jabs supported by the sleek piano of Jungmin Lee with the horns weaving in and out. On “What if Ellington Didn’t Take the A Train, the team hits hard with some scrambling drum work by Hyunsu Lee and some intriguing guitar effects by Sungyun Hong. Chick Corea’s “Spain” is filled with exotic sounds and touches as well, while the voices of Junsu Choi and Jinho Pyo add intrigue to “Nach Wien” and bright secion work flies around on the snappy and crisp “Stolen Yellow.” Lots of  promising ideas and fresh sounds.
