Argentine composer/pianist Emilio Teubal forms a creative trio with Federico Diaz/g and Ivan Barenboim/cl-bcl on this ebullient collection of South American moods. Teubal’s touch is like a dancer, prancing along the floor during a sensuous solo of “Playing” while sauntering with Ivan Barenboim’s clarinet like partners on “Un Ciego Desacuerdo.” The mix of strings and reed team well on the fragrant “En el Dia de los Muertos” and the joyful “La Inqueta.” A four part “Suite Memories de Otro Tiempo” include Barenboim’s bass clarinet joining with Diaz’s picking on a nuevo tango of “Memorias de Otro Tiempo” and with melancholic strums during “April 7th.” The sounds are always fresh and buoyant, combing Latin plaza moods with the guitar and late night parlors with the leader’s piano. Enticing!
