James Hall: Lattice

Trombonist James Hall delivers post bop moods with the clever teaming of flutiest Jamie Baum along with Deanna Witkowski/p-key, Tom DiCarlo/b and Allan Mednard/dr. Alto saxist Sharel Cassity joins in for a couple of tunes, the boppy “Brittle Stitch” with a hip groove and a cymbal driven take of Joe Henderson’s “Black Narcissus.” Hall plunges and growls on the easy pulse countered by Baum on “Terrace” and creates a rich samba on a romantic “Gaillardia” and forming rich harmonies throughout,  particularly on the warm “Kind Folk” while getting a bit spacy on “Lattice.” The mix of woodwinds and brass make each piece a breezy adventure.
