AJ Ghent plays a strong slide, pedal steel and resonant guitar, meanwhile supplying all of the supporting instruments as well with the addition of Marla Ghent on vocals and percussion for this collection of indigo moods. His voice is urgent while the sounds are thick and murky on “Do the Rump!” and he shows how to get down on the urban funky blues “Was Ya Hair.” Some 70s heavy metal thunders down the road on “Power” while his pop sensibilities show promise on the earnest “Mercy.” He delivers a boogie groove as well, ending on an upbeat pulse on “Gonna Rock.” Lots of promise; how’s he gonna do it in concert?
