The humming B3 trio of John Hart/g, Adam Scone/B3 and Rudy Albin Petschauer/dr take on radio hits from administrations Reagan to Clinton on this swinging set. As with all things Hammond, the selection of tunes is half the battle, and this trio is as tasty as Bobca from Katz’s deli. They groove with delight on their own “Blues for the UK” while Hart does some rich Grant Green lines on a sleek “The Look of Love” while sliding over Petschauer’s shuffling sticks on Sade’s “Smooth Operator.” The team gets Hendrixy as Hart taps into his inner Experience on the bluesy “Rolling in the Deep” while dashes of Larry Young bounce of the walls on a gloriously modal move of Adele’s “Turning Tables.” Even Amy Winehouse gets into the scene, as her delicate duet version with Tony Bennett of “Body And Soul” gets a sensitive read, while her “Rehab” is as soulful as any vintage Blue Note session. A fun one that literally pulls out the plugs!
