Jamie Saft: Solo A Genoa

Pianist Jamie Saft gives a wide ranging solo recital at the Auditorium Eugenio Montale in Genova, Italy, focusing on rich lyricism. His selection of songs is almost as tasteful and wide ranging as his performances of them, including a rainbow coalition from Curtis Mayfield to ZZ Top. Of the latter, “Sharp Dressed Man” is the most left of center, with the tensile strings providing an eerie harpsichord effect, with the former a rich romantic. A pair of more obscure Bob Dylan tunes come to light, with a graceful “Restless Farewell” and a lounge lizard “Po’ Boy” sounding intimate and casual. Of the jazz side of life, Saft does wonders with the classic “Blue In Green” while “Naima” is Debussy-esque. Saft’s touch is warm, thoughtful and the delivery is patient, reflective and oozing with deep thoughts. Bravo!
