The trio Gogo Penguin consists of Nick Blacka/b, Chris Illingworth/p and Rob Turner/dr. Together, they adeptly mix classical, jazz, electronics, and with engineer Joe Reiser, create some rich textures. Ellingwoth’s Beethoven touch teams with galloping drums on an intriguing “Window” and Blacka brings a funky electric groove to “Reactor.” Lots of sonic and synthesized backgrounds and climaxes, with pastoral moods teaming with plucked strings on “Bardo” with energetic drums driving “Raven.” Moods change like colors on a kaleidoscope on a successful fusion session.
