Rahsaan Barber: The Music in the Night

Rahsaan Barber has a warm tone on his collection of saxes as he teams up with Matt Endahl/p, Jack Aylor/b, Derreck Phillips/dr and James DaSilva/g for some rich reads of jazz and soul standards. His tenor is rich and inviting on a reggae’d groove of “My Funny Valentine” while stomping on a Memphis Stew  with DaSilva on “Georgia On My Mind.” There’s a sweetness to his soprano, gliding with the sensuous pulse of ‘The Girl From Ipaniema” and the lithe “Skylark.” Endahl provices rich support n “Isn’t She Lovely” and a delicate “The Rain-Interlude I” while DaSilva does likewise on “Interlude II.” Ebullient and inviting.
