Composer and performer Jeff Buckley is given a creative tribute here by the Negative Press Project, consisting of Ruthie Dineen/p, Lyle Link/ts, Andrew Lion/b, Lus Salcedo/g, Chris Sullivan/as, Max Miller-Loran/tp, Mike Mitchell/dr and a collection of vocalists. The two disc set is divided roughly into instrumental and vocal interpretations, with Link’s breathy tenor creating warm glows on the gentle “Mojo Pin” and elegiac “Anthem.” Dineen’s piano is homespun with Link on “Lover You Should’ve Come Over” while dark guitar strums create shadows on “Wolf River.” Dineen’s piano is contemplative during “The Man That Got Away” and Jeff Campbell gives a gospel feel to “Lover, You Should’ve Come Over.” Respectful, yet creative.
