Engineer and producer RK Dawkins steps out into his own on this “solo” album where he creates a synth-funk sound and groove that harkens to the moods of Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters and The Crusaders. A hip-hoppy “The Wake” mixes sax and keyboard sounds with a snazzy Weather Report feel, while a 70s R&B Soultrain vibe is prevalent on the guitar riffed “Cruise” and spacey “Discovery.” Dawkins creates an irresistible bass riff on the Jaco Pastorius-inspired “The Search” and mixes it with keyboardish flute on the irresistible “Arrival.” Polyester pants rule the dance floor on this high stepping boogie night session.
