Guitarist Carll Filipiak mixes vintage 70s guitar thoughts with some flexible jazz moods on this intriguing album with Matthew Everhart/b, Paul Hannah/sax and Frank Young/dr-perc. He knows how to take the pedal to the metal, changing tones and string sounds cleverly on a creative take of The Beatles’ “Strawberry Fields Forever” and teaming up with Young’s percussion for a Santos and Johnny-ish and salsa mooded “Dr. Mino.” He rocks the boogie with Hannah for some unison lines on the easy striding “High Noon,” a hip bluesy “Mischeno” and upbeat take of the Boomer hit “Sunny,” with Brian Simms’ B3 adding extra octane. He can create shadows during a moody “My Time to Die” and does some nice funk with a snappy backbeat supplied by Everhart and Young on the title track. Fun on the frets!
