Consisting of Brodie Jarvie/b, Alistair Payne/tp, Teis Semey/g, and Guy Salamon/dr, the band Pull mixes danceable jazz grooves and indie rock moods on this album of ten originals. Guitar strums and legato horns mix well on “Stargazing #3” while an easy pasted cascade has Semey producing some cascading thoughts on “Pull A String.” Kinetic funk bounces around with Jarvie’s bass on “KD” while Payne gasps through the horn bell on the spacious and eerie “Lament.” Indie moods mix with rock on “Patty boogie” and the rockishly chaotic “Exile Theme” while the team plods through the mud on “E Sheli.” Lots of bending of genres on this toe tapping collection.
