Guitarist and bassist Brian Tarquin mixes and matches with a wide collection of artists that includes Mike Stern, Larry Coryell, Tony Franklin and Bobby Baldwin on this eclectic session that possibly includes Coryell’s last moments on record.
The album is strong on the jazz rock side of life, with Coryell delivering a rich acoustic guitar solo on “Pulse 49” and a clean electric outing on the ¾ groover “Metropolis.” Mike Stern lends his iconic sound along with tenor saxist Don Black to the heavy hitting “Kinda Sorta” while Franklin his hip along with Reggy Pryor’s ride cymbal on “Tropical Rain.”Pianist Bobby Baldwin brings some soul jazz to “She Used To Be A Lady” and some funky soul along with Black’s soprano on “Madame Shangahi.” Through it all, Tarquin directs traffic, pushes the team forward with his rhythm guitar and fills in other solos when needed. Workmanlike and blue collar.
