Best known for his musical prowess on programs like NPR’s Morning Edition, keyboardist/composer BJ Leiderman puts out a debut album that could easily be compared to vintage Billy Joel. He’s got a streetwise voice, and uses it well on the world-observant “Sometimes” or Randy Newman-inspired “Bitch” both of which mix sardonic wit and melody. He’s capable of delivering on guitar riffing rockers as well, as on Pray” and “Waterside,” while displaying some jazz sensibilities on the hip “Maizey’s Song.” Banjo-meister Bela Fleck sits in for a handful of fun and funky jams, while his own “Bring On The Sunrise” displays Leiderman’s more pensive side. Eclectic and hip, sort of like an hour radio program on NPR!
