Guitarist Alex Goodman leads a post bop team of Matt Marantz/ts-ewi, Eden Ladin/p-key, Rick Rosato/b and Jimmy MacBride/dr through a collection of sophisticated originals. He shows his bop chops with Matrantz on tenor on the clever “Questions” and the kinetic “The First Break” and displays a wiry tone as he introduces “Losing Cool” and gives some clean lines on the breezy “Departure.” Marantz’s EWI and Ladin’s keyboards supply a rubato frame on the pastoral “Acrobat” and hints of Bill Frisell patient strums are evident on the laconic “Sharon.” Impressive string work with tones and lines.
