Pianist Yoko Miwa teams up a trio with Will Slater/b and Scott Goulding/dr with a personal and melodic mix of originals and covers. She has an elegant touch, flowing and telling a story during Joni Mitchell’s “Court and Spark,” giving room for Slater’s bass to serve a thoughtful solo. They do a nice duet together during the fun and melodic “Log O’Rhythm” and they have fun with the blues on “Was It Something I Said?”. Her feel is dainty as the team canters on ”After You” and graceful on “Lantern Light,” and with Brad Barrett replacing Slater, a take of The Beatles’ “Dear Prudence” is hiply stretched and grooved to delight. Lots of nice ideas bouncing around her.
