Taking sounds and moods from vintage France to the 21st Century, the Paris Combo team of Belle du Berr/voc, Potzi/g, Francois Jeannin/dr-voc, David Leis/tp-key, and Benoit Dunoyer de Segonzac-Oliver Smith/Emmanuel Chabbey/b come off as a fresh baguette of sounds on this recent album. Du Berr is both crystal clear and Left Bank bohemian in her delivery of lyrics, sensuous on the lilting “Anemiques Maracas” and vaudevillian “Specimen” and delivering a rich jazz lilt on the lovely “Orageuese.” The team gets a bit synthesized on the keyboard heavy “Cur Interieur” and deliver a modern film noir shadow during the moody “Mon Anatomie Cherche un Ami.” Potzi’s guitar produces the Django touch on the hot jazz of “ID D’Heidi” while Leis’ horn is two beat bouncy on the cabaret title track with accompanying vocals by Barcella. This is a fun band that also shows that art can be enjoyable.
