Matt Holman brings his trumpet and flugelhorn te team up with the multiple woodwinds of Sam Sadigursky, the vibes of Chris Dingman and Bobby Avey’s piano on this collection of 16 musical “Fragments.” As expected without any drums or piano, the music floats on an impressionistic cloud, with only Dingman’s vibes the only anchor. Lots of musical pastels and soft chords as Sadigursky’s clarinet gets moody on “Fragment 168b” his bass clarinet sighs on “Fragment 32” the flute gasps on “Fragment 63” and is pastoral on the dreamy “Fragment 104b” Avey creates a stringed pulse on “Fragment 29A” and rumbles on” Fragment 36.” Lots of subtle hues hover throughout, with Holman’s horn oozes, gasps and wisps throughout the session. A room full of post impressionistic watercolors.
