Pianist Jason Yeager forms a front line with violin and mandolin player Jason Anick along with a rotating support team of Greg Loughman-John Lockwood/b, Mike Connors/dr, Jerry Leake/perec and various cameos on this buoyant session. As a duo, the gents know their parts as Yeager rumbles underneath Anick on a seductive read of “All Blues” while they deliver a sensuous sonata on “Stillness.” With George Garzone on tenor, the band gets assertive on a Monk-like “Turbulent Plover” while with Jason Palmer’s trumpet things get kinetic on the festive “Harlem Hoedown.” A nice mix of Old World moods as well as Latin Quarter moods mix on “ Achi” and “Bird’s Eye View” and even George Harrison’s “Something” gets put through some Paganini pizzicatos to excellent effect. A swinging small group with great ideas.
