Randy Ingram: The Wandering

Pianist randy Ingram delivers a collection of rich duets with bassist Drew Gress that are reminiscent of vintage summit meetings between Bill Evans and Eddie Gomez. The rapport between these two are palpable, ranging from cheerful and fun material such as Evans’ own “Show-Type Tune” to a richly ruminating take of Jimmy  Rowles’ “The Peacocks.”  There is a buoyant and happy feel to “Chief Crazy Horse” as Gress digs into a groove, while “The Wandering” has the bassist  veering through some sepia tones delivered by the ivories. Ingram’s warm touch resonates on  “Away” and creates the feel of a village square on “Guimaraes” while the two trade ideas back and forth like McEnroe and Connors on the free flowing “Large Father” as well as the more melodic “Dream Dancing.” This one’s a joy for the ears and heart.
