Myles Wright wrote the music for the four tunes on this ep for the extra large 24 piece big band. Amazingly the team is pretty light on its feet, sounding relaxed as they create rich textures for Luke O’Reilly’s piano on”Sketchbook” while the soft reeds create a rice pilaf of a bed for a rich trumpet solo on “Rain At night.” The rhythm team of O’Reilly with Saul Rubin/g, Marcus McLaurin Aaron Kimmel/dr and Bill Hayes-Charlie Descarfino/perc gets into a nice bluesy shuffle on “Check-In” and hints of Gil Evans slip through the cracks on the richly hued “The Run.” Let’s see a whole album of this!
