Bill Hart: Touch of Blue

Guitarist Bill Hart has a rocking sound not dissimilar to vintage Carlos Santana on this collection of originals. He leads a session with Enrico Galetta-Gary Wilkins/b, Pat Strawser/key, Ahsa Ahla/perc and Juangui Aguayo/dr through eleven pieces that is heavy on heavy hitting. Some thunderous funk is felt with a clavinet on “Inside Job” and 70s rock gets the fist pumping on “Touch of Blue.” A couple of tunes like “A Fine Line” mix jazz and reggae, and “That’s Purdy” has a rich bouncy vibe. “Funky Do Funky Don’t” sounds like it came from a vintage Steely Dan session with an irresistible bass line, and the licks continue through a toe tapper of “All I Know.”  Hill’s chops work well, and are never on display to impress but to give service to the song, always a good sign.
