Thoughtful and reflective duets with strings are rich and pastoral as Jamie Saft plays dobro and lap steel guitar in partnership with Bill Brovold’s electric guitar. The two create clever droplets of sound on pieces like “Splintering Wind” and the intimate “Saddle Horn” while some bluesy strums are evocative on “Sweet Grass.” Most intriguing is Saft’s role in the background as he adds haunting sonic images during pieces like “No Horse Seen” and “Bmidji” while providing a counter melody on “Thermopolis.” Simple, dignified, and more alluring each listen.
