Ricardo Grilli: 1954

Guitarist Ricardo Grilli uses both electric and acoustic strings on this very strong album of originals. He picks a muscular team of Aaron Parks/p, Joe Martin/b and Eric Harland/dr to handle pieces like the Pat Metheny inspired pieces like “Arcturus” and”Pulse.” Harland is strong and flexible throughout, working like a race horse with Martin on “Pogo56” and rustling under the leader’s lean and lanky tone on ”Cosmonauts.” Parks, one of the underrated wonders in jazz, is his usual tasty self, glowing on ”Radiance” and wistful on “Far Away Shores.” If you’re a six stringed fan, step right up and find a new friend.
