The stated goal of Security Project is to give tribute to “the timeless music of Peter Gabriel and Beyond.“ Brian Cummins has a voice hauntingly similar to the famed leader of Genesis, and he teams up with Jerry Marotta/dr, Trey Gunn/g, David Jameson/key and Michael Cozzi/g in a concert setting to deliver a Gabriel review.
You get a 12 string noirish “Fly On A Windshield” and a rocking “On The Air” with the classic “The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway” complete with an extra edge. Cummins sounds urgent and important throughout, tamed with piano on “Wallflower” and “Father, Son” while synth quirky on “Family Snapshot.” While enjoyable, the question for these projects is invariably “why not just go to the original source?” But then again, with 5,000 Elvis impersonators, what’s one Peter Gabriel knock off?
