Keith Jarrett: A Multitude of Angels

Here’s Keith Jarrett in his favorite setting: solo piano and in Italy, where for 4 discs he does some wondrous ruminations. It’s simply amazing that this man never seems to run out of ideas or inspirations. Every piece is a strong production on its own.

Most of the improvisations run from 30-40+ minutes along with a handful of encores or standards. Of the latter, “Danny Boy” is a thoughtful delight, rich in texture, and “Over The Rainbow” shines like ruby slippers.

For the longer pieces, “Modena) mixes joyful prances with complex classical fills. “Ferrara” is moody, yet brimming over with reflection.” He searches during parts of “Torino” and gets ectomorphically eerie during “Genoa” demonstrating that he’s never coasting, but always looking for hidden treasures under the 88 ivories. Quite inspiring on a plethora of levels. He is a living jazz treasure.
