Guitarist Joshua Breakstone creates a hip album that is a pizzicato delight, combining his guitar with bassist Lisle Atkinson and the added touch of Mike Richmond on cello, with Andy Watson’s drum keeping the pulse moving forward. The moods are soft and bluesy, as they deftly bop on “The Chief” and the titletrack, and go crisp and nimble on “Moe Is On.” Bass and cello brood well on Cedar Walton’s “Black” and Watson delivers a loping cadence for the strings on “News For Lulu.” Breakstone’s tone is warm and fluid, delicate with the brushes on “Soul Eyes” and tensile on “If You Could See Me Now.” Suave and stylish.
