Owen Campbell is as gritty as his 3 day beard on this earthy album of originals. He sings like a longshoreman, plays guitar like a juke jointer and teams up with Ben Isackson/dr, Landon Moore/b, Von De Namlla/g, Jana Misener/cel and Rick Steff/key for some rollin’ and tumblin’.
With a bluesy keyboard, he gets an old country sound on “Howlin’” while showing his Strat can boogie on “Keep On Walkin’.” A dash of Danny O’Keefe storytelling is felt on pieces like the earnest “Rise” and the dramatic “Rattlin’ Round,” and his string picking skills are displayed during “On My Knees” and the title track. Impressive, rootsy and real.
