Here’s another gorgeous production of Brazilian music released by Adventure Music. This time, you get the team of acoustic guitarist Ricardo Silveira and bassist John Leftwich along with kiko Freitas on drums and guest legend Hubert Laws on the flute. Together , a gorgeous Raphael tapestry of pastoral sounds are emitted by the quartet, with a judicious mix of melody and improvisation.
Silveira displays his fluid guitar work on pieces such as “Northeast and West”” while the genteel “Bachianas Brasilieras #5” melds the suave strings with Laws’ sweet toned musings. “Leftwich delivers a sublime bass solo without anyone breaking stride on “9 to One” as the sleek and dreamy samba of “Outro Rio” mixes wordless vocals to the rich strings. Warm chamber sounds volley back and forth with fragrant pulses as on “Sempre Assim” and “”Get Together” and the team shows is ability to suspend time on the closing rubato of “Stars.” Like listening to a sunset.
