Trumpeter Steffen Kuehn shows his skills at both playing the horn and arranging on this upbeat collection of mostly originals. Instead of featuring himself, he likes showing off his horn section of him with John Gove/tb, Tom E Politzer/ts and Marc Russo/as who show lots of punch on pieces like “Who Knew” and the title track. He features Bob Mintzer’s tenor on the warm “Storm”, and gives space for Wouter Kellerman’s flute and Alexa Weber Morales’ rich voice on “Serenity” while he gives himself a chance up front to display his rich tone on “Helen’s Song.” Marc Russo[s alto is glorious on “Now Is the Time” and the rhythm team of Tommy Igoe/dr, Dewaye Pate/dr, Drew Zingg/g and Colin Hogan/key show flexibility on “Above The Fold” while Kuehn delivers a gentle closer on”Vivienne & Simone’s Lullaby.” Easy on the ears.
