Lander Gyselinck/dr, Anneleen Boehme/b, Bram De Looze/key, Michael Attias/sax and Christopher Hoffman/cel make up the freely flowing team Labtrio. The clever combination of bass and cello make for some rich lower tones, as the strings bow and pick their way through brooding pieces such as the sonata like “Avondlijke Rus” and the melancholy “UMEA.” De Looze’s ectomorphic fingers step methodically through “Treppenwitz” and Attias’ tenor is thick and palpable on the loose “Ornette The Western Screech.’ The team likes to get a bit frisky, as shown on “Considering” but Gyselinck always keeps things from fragmenting, as he lays down attractive pulses as on “Low Fat.” Good for open minded ears.
