Here’s an old school swinger that shows he’s still got a lotta heart left in him. Danny Marks sings and plays guitar on this collection of his compositions and a few covers. Along with a snappy team of Alec Fraser/b, Bucky Berger-Al Cross/dr, Danny Marks-Robert Piltch/g and a hefty group of 8 to the bar guests, Marks takes you to 12th and Vine as he shuffles on “Kansas City Shout” along with saxists Mike Wark and Phil Skladowski while he gets his hands dirty on “Belt Line Blues” and Memphis Got Soul” with extra keyboards and B3 by Jonathan Goldsmith and Julian Fauth. His voice is leather worn, and he makes up for any lack of youthful vigor with a sage’s wisdom that gives depth to his delivery as on “Land Where The Blues Began” and “Blues Came to Chicago.” He plays like a believer, and that carries the weight on this earthy session.
