Here’s a quartet that mixes traditional bluegrass and swing with modern harmonies. The Real Vocal String Quartet release this 6 song ep (which would have qualified for an album a generation back) with a mix of buoyant instrumentals and richly tuned vocals. The team of Irene Sazer/v-voc, Alisa Rose/v-voc, Matthias McIntire/va-voc and Jessica Ivry/cel-voc deliver a semi-tongue in cheek trad such as “Cluck Old Hen” which and original I Keep You Safe” which swing well and sound like the ladies are vocalizing while hanging out the morning wash. The instrumentals show some deft interplay and joyfulness as on “Cindy Rose Waltz” and “California Residents…” making you feel it’s the second set at the Moose Lodge. Lotta fun in these fretless ladies!
