Here are three ferociously free songs from the pianoless team of Peter Kuhn/as-ts-cl, Dave Sewelson/bs, sss, Larry Roland/b and Gerald Cleaver/dr. Almost an hour’s worth of music is delivered from three songs, so hang on tight, it’s going to be a wild ride!
The 25 minute “Our Earth” includes some crying bari from Sewelson, along with Kuhn’s searing clarinet driving along by Clever’s free flying drumming. For 12 minutes, “Our World” as some penetrating sopranino musings reaching the ozone along with Kuhn’s alto, with Sewelson’s bari switching in for a traffic jam that Cairo would be jealous of. Roland’s bass bows in the floating “It Matters” as Kuhn’s saxes create caustic passions and Cleaver’s snare snaps like the Charge of the Light Brigade. Lots of room for spontaneity and soloing, with enough dashes of coherence to keep the music from spontaneously combusting.
