Comprised of Aaron Konkol/key/voc, Jah Boogje/voc-b, Phillip Hall/ddr, Louka Patenaude/g and Richard Hiloner/g, the group Natty Nation serves up R&B-ish reggae with an extra dash of synth and clavinet. The lead singer has a warm and rich voice, used well on soulful pieces like “Balance” and the funky clavinet driven “Negus Reggae.” The guitars chop up the chords for riffs and grooves on “Suffice” and some saxes add to the atmosphere on the sweaty “Intimidation. A smoky B3 and synthesizer brings some flavors to the hopping “5th Dimension Dub” and “She Cries Dub” and there’s a double time pace on the Middle Eastern flavored “Civil Rights.” Right in the Jamaican tradition.
