Composer and arranger Myles Wright brings together some of LA’s finest for a sophisticated big band ep of three rich tunes. The orchestra includes studio studs like Bob Sheppard/ts-cl and Big Phat members Sal Lozano/as-cl-fl, Jeff Driskill/rs-cl, Bob Summers/tp, Alan Synoweic/g and Rich Shaw/b as well as the legendary drummer Harvey Mason. Not a bad lot at all!
“Corridors” includes panoramic reed work that rides crests of waves along with Sheppard’s tenor solo, while “Choose Your Own Adventure” has a Copland-esque majesty with Mason’s drums propelling the team as solos by Dan Higgins/as, Synoweic and Alex Iles/tb weave in and out of the brass and reed sections. “Because you Can” has a soundtrack feel, with Mason’s hip backbeat driving Summer’s rich horn. If you’re a fan of modern big band, step right up , and look around for them to perform some time soon.
