Here is a gorgeous collection of lyrical duets brought together by Florian Weber on the piano alongside Markus Stockhausen, who switches effortlessly between trumpet and flugelhorn. Romantic melodies predominate as Stockhausen’s rich toned flugelhorn glows on “Mondtraum” or his trumpet gaily dances alongside Weber’s prancing piano on the optimistic “Befreiung.” Some of the pieces are repeated, but with various changes to keep the piece fresh, as “Resonances” has Stockhausen’s horn glowing like a full moon whereas Weber is wistful and pensive with his use of space on the recitative “Today.” Silence is a sound on this rich and wistful collection of rich thoughts.
