Here are a couple jazz vocalists that you might want to discover.
Vocalist Anne Walsh has a sweet spirit of a tone, and works it well on this Brazilian flavored session. She enlists the talents of Brian Bromberg/g, Thomas Zink/key, Chris Wabich/dr-perc and various stringed guests on this clear and upbeat album.
She exudes dreamy wanderlust with flutes on “Amazon River” and her own bossa’d title track, with her muscles flexing a bit on the CTI-styled soul of “The Beat.” Gary Meek’s sax adds to a real clever take of the Doo Wop classic “My Prayer” and glides with the singer on a lovely read of The Beatles’ “Here, There and Everywhere.” The strings are drawn like shades on a sophisticated “I Say A Little Prayer” and gets dreamy on “The Windmills Of Your Mind.” High class.
Daphna Levy has a clear and husky sound and knows how to caress a lyric. She brings the legendary tenor saxist Lew Tabakin as well as Tony Pancella/p, Assaf Hakimi/b, Gasper Bertonceli and Merton Cahm/ts for a well versed delivery of standards.
She knows how to mix vocals with scat as on the peppy “I Hear Music” and she can swoon and quiver during a fervent read of “Daydream.” She demonstrates elasticity with Hakimi on the duet of “I Got Rhythm” and caresses the lyrics with Pancella on “Gentle Rain.” Tabakin is a joy throughout, going film noir moody with Levy on “You Don’t Know What Love Is” and changes speeds like a Shelby Cobra on “ All Of Me.” This is a fun one!
