Didn’t know that Costa Rica had its own sound and style? Here’s a band consisting of Javier Arce/v, Ignacio Paez/g, Reynaldo Escobedo/b, Gustavo Gutierrez/key and Ricardo Machado/perc that mixes indie rock, reggae and Caribbean in an attractive pop style. Arce’s voice is soft and subdued, sort of like Lifehouse in slightly groaning subtones, working well on reggae pieces like Alma Valiente with Panamanian rock star Lilo Sanchez. Andrew tosh adds some extra sizzle on “Temprano” while Estefan Brolo’s voice brings romance to “Antes De Nacer.” Clipped chords make for an attractive “Saboteo” and a bit of calypso is felt on “Coleccionista.” Intrigue from Central America.
