Here’s a five song ep by an artist that shows a lot of promise. Cason Fentress songs and plays keyboards with a festive team of Josh Dion/dr, Brian Kelleen/b, Matt King/p and a mix of horns and guitars. All of the songs are his own, and they have an extroverted Crescent City groove and earnestness to them. The horns boogaloo on R&B-ish tunes like “19th Century dame” and have a 70s fun time on “Always Been Looking For You.” Piano and guitar mix well on “Margaret Dear” and a B3 gets smoky with the bearish “Hey Renee” Fentress’ voice is strong and confident. Gotta see this guy in concert!
