Ah! Life just seems so easy and basic some times. Here’s a gig from 1987 that takes the basic joys of the blues down to its electric marrow. Johnny Winter wails on both guitar and vocals with a swinging team of John Paris/b-harp and Tom Compton/dr with Dr. John guesting on a number of tracks. What more could you want?
The band really sizzles on pieces like “Sound the Bell” and knows how to create an irresistible groove on “Don’t Take Advantage of Me” and the foot stomping “Mojo Boogie.” Enter Dr. John for some fun and rollicking “You Lie Too Much” and “Sugar Sweet” and while Winter is a bit more restrained, he’s still a tasteful force. The closer “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” is an 6 stringing avalanche.
The dvd includes a 1972 presentation of “Prodigal Son,” so you get a bit of a bonus, but the cd will get your motor running just as well.
