Moppa Elliott: Still, Up In The Air

Moppa Elliott is best known for his bass work for Most Other People Do the Killing, a band best known for doing a note by note reproduction of Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue. Elliott goes the completely other direction here, creating a solo album of seven “Sequences” that have him bowing, plucking,  picking and strumming the bass to various melodies and themes.

If you’re not the kind of jazz fan that gets up to get a drink or go to the restroom during the bass solo of a set, you might be able to hang in there for the entire collection. Otherwise, small doses is best here if you’re done listening to your Bach Partitas.
