Electric bassist Fernando Huergo creates some exciting music with a front line of flute (Yulia Musayelyan) and tenor sax (Rick DiMuzio) along with a nimble rhythm team of Leo Genovese/key and Franco Pinna/dr. The woodwinds work remarkably well and give a dreamy atmosphere as Pinna and Hergo sparkle on “Afternoon At The Gallery” and with DiMuzio’s added tenor a gentle cadence makes “Weather” a joyful ride. The team rhumbas well on “Astor” while a read of Wayne Shorter’s “Infant eyes” gives the leader a chance in the spotlight.” Billy Strayhorn’s “UMMG” highlights Genovese’s delicate hands, and when he teams up with Pinna’s dainty brushes on “Cerca” a sublime mist takes over. Huergo has a rich sense of pulse, bopping on the title track and bluesing on kinetic material like “Trunca.” A real enjoyable feast here, on any medium!
